Many existing transplantation-based therapies are currently limited by the availability of donor-derived tissues. One key goal of regenerative medicine is to identify a renewable source of cells and tissues for replacement therapies. Human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) represent a promising source of material for transplantation because of their unique properties. hPSCs are primary cells that can be expanded indefinitely in culture and thus are a renewable source of tissue. Additionally, because hPSCs are capable of differentiating into all cell types of the body they can be used to generate cells for replacement therapy of any diseased or damaged cell, as well as providing a powerful new tool for researchers to study the mechanisms of human development and disease.

The PSCF consists of well-equipped tissue culture facilities, access to state of the art microscopy and histology equipment, as well as all the necessary equipment for cellular and molecular analysis of hESCs.
