3. MRI Scan Protocols

This section outlines the methods used for image data acquisition. Image data is acquired during two separate imaging sessions. These sessions are divided into an initial Physiological Imaging Session followed by a Functional Imaging Session if the Physiological Session is completed successfully by the participant. Two sessions are needed because the total acquisition time for all of the scans needed for the study is thought to be too long for children (particularly younger children) to complete during a single imaging session without becoming restless and compromising image quality due to motion or failing to complete all of the imaging. At the end of this chapter of the manual there is a table included with all of the relevant parameters for each MRI sequence listed in the protocol as outlined below.
